Mieke

Born and raised in the Netherlands, I live with my son, a toy poodle named Rose, some chickens, and a Greek tortoise in Lelystad. Since I could hold a pencil I’ve been drawing animals. I love the intricate details of every living creature and I want to capture them anyway I can.

As a kid I wanted to become a veterinarian, so in between HAVO and Atheneum I did a half year internship with the veterinarian in our village. Experiencing his jealousy towards the rich farmers in our village made me decide otherwise. And I haven’t regretted it since:  I became an animal scientist instead.

In between studies for my Masters at the Wageningen university and my current work, I was employed at ABN AMRO.
I started out as an IT professional and ended as an information architect.

Being an animal scientist has enormous benefits for my work:
I approach my work as a scientist, I know how to interpret other people’s research, and I’m an equal partner for my clients. My experiences at ABN AMRO enable me to know my way around large organizations, enormous amounts of data, and how to conduct a friendly and professional relationship with my clients.
